The UK is the top bondage nation?

According to the Durex Global Sex Survey for 2003 (!), 38% of UK respondents had tried handcuffs or bondage to enhance sex - higher than any of the other countries represented. They say "more than 150,000 lovers worldwide took part in what we believe is the largest ever online survey exploring sexual attitudes and behaviour across the globe."

The survey was self-selected and done online on Durex.com so you would expect it to bias the figures towards including more sexually active people. However, I still think it's very telling that such as high fraction of people in a general survey have experimented with at least one aspect of BDSM.

It's also interesting to note how skewed the percentages are towards English-speaking and Western European countries. Only 3% of Chinese respondents admitted to having tried bondage, for example.
