Jarhead

I went to see Jarhead today (lili and popi being busy with the Women's Munch etc.) As the pre-publicity has indicated, it's a "bootcamp then active service" story, except active service in this case was the Kuwait Gulf War and was 5 months waiting followed by 4 days of walking towards some action. It's had mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it.

Along with "American Beauty" and "Road to Perdition", Sam Mendes has produced three very different films now, although they are all about looking back with a mixture of nostalgia and sadness to a defining moment in a character's life. (Trivia: Chris Cooper is a Marine Corps colonel in both "Jarhead" and "American Beauty.")
