Jack McGeorge - master, BDSM organiser, US Marine, Iraq UN WMD investigator, and much more - died last week after heart surgery.

I only met him once, at the 2007 M/s Conference in Washington, but he was the one who sought me out, to make some complimentary remarks about The Slave Register. It seems from what others have written that this was typical of him, in that there wasn't any bluster or false ceremony about him at all: as he was in that short conversation, it was all about problems and their solutions, what can be done, and helping people to do it. There is a dedicated obituary site and a Wikipedia article, which has some links about his involvement with WMDs, and the way his involvement in BDSM was used by Bush supporters to try to smear the investigation into whether Iraq had the WMDs we now know it didn't.

Typically, he fronted it all out, in the glare of the world's press, saying "I am who I am. I am not ashamed of who I am - not one bit.".

That was Jack Tanos. I think you got to meet several other locals that week proving that not all of the gems of Washington DC aren't locked up in the Smithsonian. A significant loss for the community as a whole although Jack would have been the last one to say that.

Dear MASTER Tanos, Allow me to begin by introducing myself. My name is MASTER Marc, I reside here in Central, NJ and have been a leatherman since the age of 23 and starting in 1977. I was a slave for some 10 years to a wonderful MASTER who took me in and transformed me into his leather slaveboy to which I have always been eternally grateful.

I have been a LeatherMASTER for the past 20+ years since 1988 and continue to this day to help those new submissives who seek a life of slavery, obedience, and to be in service to one's MASTER. To help bring a submissive to his full potential as a slave or even a MASTER within our community for me is a wonderful training experience. It is my way, as an Old Guard Leatherman to give back to my community that has given me so much over these many wonderful years.

I have also been over these many years very involved with many NY and NJ leather clubs i.e. IronGuard Brotherhood, Promethean Guard of NJ and so many others.

One of the most wonderful organizations that I have been an active part of for these many years since 1999 is MAsT International and have had many chapters of my own.

I was involved in the formation of the MAsT Chapter in NYC, the gay chapter, a member of MAsT Central NJ and have attended many MaST conferences either as a presenter or observer, in DC, Phoenix, South Carolina, Dallas etc. All of them always a wonderful time of learning and enhancing one's knowledge and experience and skills for a MASTER or a slave.

I come now to Jack McGeorge. It was a terrible loss to our community to lose such an ICON, a man of great experience, skills and dedication to the MASTER slave Lifestyle/communities.

My boy and I had the opportunity to compete against Jack and Raven at one of the DC conferences set up by another wonderful leather man MaSTER Taino. He asked if me and my boy would step in and compete in 2007 because there were no other competitors and WE/we gladly did our part to support his contest and event.

Jack and raven were very strong competitors, well rehearsed and extremely proficient in their presentations. But we were asked to enter the contest about a week and a half before the conference was to begin, we knew we weren't going to win, BUT the experience and being able to compete against Jack and raven was alot of fun and the contest itself was just a wonderful success and we came away feeling proud to help MaSTER Taino.

I have sat through many of Jack's presentations whether it was on Flogging, Whips, Interrogation, Master slave relationships and structure etc. He was always wonderful to listen to, to hear him give his presentation and always enjoyed a good discussion or even debate when you may have disagreed with him.

He was well structured in his Household and with his slaves. And he was always a strong supporter of our community and of our lifestyle no matter who knew about him.

Jack, HE will be missed by many of us, his voice may be silenced but his spirit will always be with us all wherever there is a workshop being conducted or given, Jack will be there, watching over the community he loved so deeply.

Master Marc Hudson, NJ
