"An Intercepted Correspondence" by J.F. Lewis (1869)

This is a reworking of Lewis's "The Harem of a Mameluke Bey, Cairo: The Introduction of an Abyssinian Slave" of 1850, with an errant girl brought before the harem's owner rather than the newly acquired slave of 1850.

I've written a weblog about this pair of paintings.
