Woolston gibbet cage

Back to the pictures gallery

Woolston gibbet cage

In the Warrington Museum, a gibbet cage used in 1792 to display the body of Edward Miles where he murdered James Hogworth, a mail boy, on the the Manchester Road in Woolston. This was the last use of a gibbet cage in the Warrington area.

The site of the gibbet must have been close to the Rope and Anchor pub near the M6, the site of the first Manchester Munch.

Included in my Scold's bridles and stocks in Cheshire day trip and weblog post.
