| 29 May 11 Royal Oak Day |
The Woodland Trust marks Royal Oak Day with a campaign to record ancient oaks all over the country. (None of Bridgewood's planted oaks are old enough to quality though!) mia and I visited Boscobel House last May and the picture shows the descendent of the original Royal Oak where Charles II hid after Worcester.
| | 27 May 11 BDSM Hoeve venue near Antwerp |
I came across BDSM Hoeve ("Farm") the other day, on the Dutch-Belgian border near Antwerp. Set in several acres including some woodland, converted farm buildings are used for BDSM film shoots, and for play events and workshops run by VVSM Village. Google has turned up some mentions of it that suggest it hosted some events in 2010 and was then relaunched as an event and filming venue at the start of 2011. It's new website is certainly well done and has some great pictures of their indoor and outdoor facilities I've added [more...]
| | 21 May 11 Trolley cart |
I'm just back from another trip to Bridgewood, to do some repairs to the fences and clear the last of the fallen branches on the rides (trackways) from the spring. I also took this trolley cart shown in the picture back to the wood after some repairs. [more...]
| | 8 May 11 Yesterday's Bridgewood event day |
We had the first event day of 2011, and I think it was the best one yet The weather was a bit off and on, with both thunder showers and warm sunshine during the daytime and evening, but the fire outside and space we now have in the log cabin kept the socialising going, and people went off to play in the wood at different times. Thanks to the gas lamp and the company, people who were just intending to stay for the day were still tearing themselves away at 9pm and it all ran very smoothly. [more...]
| | 3 May 11 Cooking |
I put together a new fire pit at the weekend in front of the Log Cabin at Bridgewood. This one has a frame made from wooden poles with a metal cross bar and hanging grill. mia cooked some "a-mazing" pizzas on it, which tasted all the better for the smokey fire and being cooked with wood from the wood. [more...]
| | 1 May 11 Lud's Church - the Green Chapel? |
| mia and I went to Lud's Church in Staffordshire today, in yet more glorious sunshine. It's located near the top of a wooded ridge in the Peak District, and the "Church" itself is a narrow ravine about 100m long but only a few metres wide and with a couple of very narrow entrances. It was probably the "Green Chapel", the setting of the climax of the medieval poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and has been a sacred pagan place and then for open air services by persecuted Christian sects. [more...]
| | 1 May 11 Mowing |
Yesterday I took the scythe mower to Bridgewood for the first time this year and did the Glade and the kilometre of rides. So following glorious weather for most of April, we're now ready on the First of May for the start of the Open Air season and this years Bridgewood events. | | 18 Apr 11 O&P Badges |
I brought some O&P badges along to the O&P Open in Manchester this weekend. I had them made by Spreadshirt.co.uk because I wanted one myself, and they do look pretty good. If you want some, either order some yourself online or ask me if I've got any with me at an event. Either way, they're only £1 each. [more...]
| | 13 Apr 11 O&P Open, Manchester, Sat 16th April 2011 |
| There will be another O&P Open in Manchester on the afternoon of Saturday 16th April 2011. The event will be from 1pm to 5pm, with social time followed by a round table discussion from 2pm. The venue is the downstairs room of the Taurus Bar, 1 Canal Street, Manchester, M1 3HE (the northeast / Piccadilly end of Canal Street.) [more...]
| | 11 Apr 11 Shelter from the storm |
| This spring's big project at Bridgewood has been the log cabin in the Glade. I took some pictures of it in the glorious sunshine yesterday and you can also see how the trees and ground cover are now in leaf. The weekend before, mia and I had lunch in the cabin during a brief hail storm, and it's lovely to have a proper building there now rather than the tents and shelters we've relied on up to now. [more...]
