5 Jan 07   popi ... day 366 in the Big Tanos House
It's the first anniversary of popi moving into my house 24/7, and the last year has gone by so quickly. And yet she's done so much with her life in that time, and made me very proud of her, as she's turned herself round, sorted out all the baggage and loose ends, and got back on with her career and her development as a person and a submissive. [more...]
3 Jan 07   The Pet
I got hold of a copy of "The Pet" this week, an independent film which has been hyped online over the past year or so, especially on mailing lists and web boards about BDSM. I'm not at all impressed, but it does include some references to elements of the ownership subculture so here goes... [more...]
3 Dec 06   The Prestige
I was impressed enough by Pan's Labyrinth last Saturday, but it didn't prepare me for The Prestige, set in the world of 19th century stage magic. It's hard to write a review without including spoilers, so I'll just say go and see it in a cinema before its run finishes! [more...]
26 Nov 06   Pan's Labyrinth
The three of us went to see Pan's Labyrinth last night: what a treat! A very adult fairy-tale: violent, fantastical, innocent, knowing, and altogether surprising.
17 Nov 06   A short history of The Slave Register
As part of an overhaul of TSR's help pages, I've written an account of how the Register came about in 2000, and its subsequent growth: we're now up to 100,000 TSR profiles and 88,000 registration numbers. It's been funny thinking back to the turn of the millennium and the various books, websites and exhibitions that had planted the seeds in the previous few years. If you're interested, then the TSR history page has the full story.
6 Nov 06   More on the Ownership Icons and Flag
In the last few days, I've seen a bit of an upsurge in hits on www.ownershipflag.com and incoming links to it from people's blogs. There's now even some interest in third-party jewelry featuring the icons (anyone can go off and do this, as the icons' reproduction isn't restricted.) [more...]
31 Oct 06   Happy halloween!
This year, lili did two carvings: Billy from Saw, and Mr Pumpkin! :) In other news, East Anglia's ambulance service was reporting five Saw-related call-outs to cinemas last Friday.
28 Oct 06   Saw III
It's been Gross-out Film Week here in the House of Tanos, with DVD showings of Hostel, Saw, Saw II and then the opening night of Saw III at the cinema yesterday. Saw III wins the prize though. [more...]
25 Oct 06   St Crispin's Day
Today is St Crispin's Day (a patron saint of leather workers, incidently.) On this day in 1415, an English army defeated a much larger French force, with losses of a few hundred at the most, compared to maybe 10,000 French dead. [more...]
24 Oct 06   "Why men rule: a theory of male dominance" by Steven Goldberg
I thought I'd write a short review of "Why men rule", since I've just finished it. It deals with the unpopular truth in sociology: as Goldberg says "this book attempts to demonstrate and explain the universality (the presence in every society that has ever existed) of three institutions: 1. patriarchy: males occupy the overwhelming numbers of upper hierarchical positions; 2. male attainment, the association of high-status roles - whichever they happen to be in any given society - with males; and 3. male dominance, the association of dominance in [more...]
