| 21 Jan 08 Nemesis and the weekend |
This weekend was a marathon for lili and popi, with a drive down to London for Purrr.
As Purrr is a women-only event,
I stayed at home, hacking a website about and eating pizza
On Saturday night, we all headed over to Nemesis II in West Yorkshire, which seems to be on the way up again. [more...]
| | 16 Jan 08 The Desire for Purpose |
| Recently
I've got interested in general motivations: what is the most general
framework for why people do things? Are people following specific drives imposed by evolution, or is there some universal, such as
Nietzsche's claim that everyone's
motivation is The Will to Power. But how can that be true in a world with
consensual submissives? [more...]
| | 13 Jan 08 Club Lash and the Manchester Munch |
| This weekend I went to Club Lash with lili and popi on Friday, and the three of us dropped into the Manchester Munch for a few minutes on Saturday. We've not been to any scene events in Manchester since the autumn, and the effects of the smoking ban are really sinking in with no "smoke hangover" the next morning for a non-smoker like me. [more...]
| | 10 Sep 07 Machine shed of horrors |
| A link doing the rounds at the moment, the
Machine
shed of horrors:
"It's all interesting, but some of it is 'interesting' in the same way an H.R. Giger painting is interesting: cool, mechanical, but indescribably creepy. Hooterville steampunk meets the Tower of London. Rather than try to describe it, here are some pictures I took during a recent visit."
| | 12 Aug 07 Plunder! |
| I thought I'd post some pictures of some recent acquisitions: some cuff locks, a great flogger by Steve Vakesh, and a headcage which I've subsequently modified. [more...]
| | 4 Aug 07 Master/slave Conference, 2007 |
| I'm still buzzing from the
Master/slave conference and
I've got a bunch of things to say about it, but I'm going to try to give an
overview in this blog and them come back to individual topics later. [more...]
| | 27 Jul 07 Washington DC |
| After arriving in
Washington yesterday, we spent today doing touristy things: mostly looking at buildings and visiting museums. [more...]
| | 26 Jul 07 Er, welcome to America... |
| popi, lili and I are now in Washington ready for the Master/slave Conference. The journey itself went without any hitches, and we only had one small snag at immigration in Boston, due to there being three of us... [more...]
| | 16 Jul 07 "The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson |
| Neo-Victorianism is one attractive basis for Household D/s: the Victorian
/ Edwardian period was the last time middle-class families expected to have
servants and live in hierarchical, extended households. Neal Stephenson's
novel
"The
Diamond Age" doesn't deal with D/s or service, but it does present a
Neo-Victorian world which I'd like to explore in this review. [more...]
| | 9 Jul 07 Household D/s and Mrs Beeton |
| I've been thinking some more about
Household D/s (HDS), and about useful sources in particular. So far, I've
selected the domestic servant sections from Mrs Beeton and put them in the
HDS pages.
