Kink.com is about to launch The Upper Floor, a live, 24/7 high protocol D/s online "reality show", occupying the top floor of the Armory in San Francisco which is being redecorated in Edwardian country house style. Think Big Brother meets Story of O, out of Gosford Park. Gosh!

21 Feb 09 Green shoots ... at Bridgewood at least

No green shoots in the economy yet, but it was a sunny spring day in Bridgewood today and the ground has a scattering of new growth. The red shape in the bottom-left corner is Scarlet Elf Cup, a type of mushroom that grows on decaying wood, and also comes out in spring.

16 Feb 09 New ADSL modem

I don't normally weblog about computer stuff, but yesterday I replaced this ASUS AAM6000EV ADSL modem I'd been using for my internet connection since the spring of 2002. All the way from 512kb/s to 8Mb/s without a hardware or firmware upgrade is pretty impressive. I'd also never thought before about all the emails, messages and website updates that have passed through that box, as it sat quietly in it's cupboard in the cellar all these years.

I couldn't sleep last night, so I started playing around with Google Maps, and ended up superimposing a rough outline of Bridgewood onto a satellite image of Trafalgar Square at the same scale. Ahem. Maybe I should try cocoa or something?

I made a short video of one of the trees I felled today, in this case using yellow plastic wedges hammered into the back cut to tip it over. I left a thicker hinge than usual because of the branch snagged in a fork, so it would come down slowly with the wedges rather than straight away after the chainsaw cuts. [more...]
