13 Apr 09   The Tempest
I didn't write anything about going to see "The Tempest" in Leeds last weekend. Short version: I enjoyed it. Long version if you click on "more" :) [more...]
2 Apr 09   David Hockney, a naive artist
Last week David Hockney, an art establishment figure in Britain, kicked up a stink in the Guardian about the felling of some beech trees. I must admit being quite incensed when I read it - since Hockney not just paints in a naive style, but seems to think in it too :( [more...]
28 Mar 09   "The Damned United"
Just go back from seeing The Damned United about Brian Clough's 44 days at Leeds United, the latest drama based on recent history with a screenplay by Peter Morgan and Michael Sheen in a leading role. (The others have been Frost/Nixon, The Queen, The Deal.) [more...]
25 Mar 09   Begging
There was a thread on IC about begging, and whether it's just saying "please" lots of times. I've copied my reply here so it doesn't just sink into the archives. [more...]
25 Mar 09   Spring in Bridgewood
The weather was lovely at the weekend, with sun all day and quite warm at lunchtime. I took this picture showing the Glade starting to come to life, with the ground that was trampled during felling and clearing now turning green again. The contrast with the view from January is striking. [more...]
19 Mar 09   Reality Hack
I was in Manchester city centre at lunch time today, and I managed to take some pictures in the sunshine and see the "Reality Hack" exhibition of Andrew Brooks' photographs of the city at Urbis. [more...]
19 Mar 09   Google streetmaps UK goes live
For example, this view of Tib Street, in between Nua and Kiku. You can see in particular that the shop where Kiku now is, was still to let when the Google camera car went past. Not sure how I feel about all this in residential streets though!
17 Mar 09   Bronson the prisoner, in Bronson the film
I went to see Bronson last night and was very impressed, especially by Tom Hardy in the title role. Despite the nay-sayers, it doesn't glamorise Bronson. The image of Most Violent Prisoner is mesmerising in the way Hardy portrays it, but the reality that's also shown is, as one governor says, just ridiculous.
10 Mar 09   Open Air shoot on TrainingofO.com
Last month I posted about Kink.com's imminent The Upper Floor. I was a member of their Training of O site for a bit last year, and I've rejoined to have another look around inside. In particular, they have an Open Air BDSM shoot with two girls, and I've included some of the promotional images in this post. [more...]
5 Mar 09   The Green Wood Centre
I went to The Green Wood Centre in Ironbridge at the weekend, partly to see what it's like and partly for the Small Woods Association meeting being held there. It was quite an eye-opener. [more...]
