IE and O&P

I started writing about Internal Enslavement ("IE") in 1999, first calling it "Internal Slave Development" and then adopting the more accurate "Internal Enslavement" name in August of 2000. Now that most of my writing efforts are going into O&P (Ownership & Possession), this is a good time to clarify how IE fits into this new framework.

Of course, the short answer is that IE is part of the Ownership half of O&P, which is roughly the M/s part. However, the longer version is that O&P itself provides a more detailed model for how IE comes about.

A big part of the idea of O&P is to create a "Big Tent" framework that includes many types of D/s and M/s where the submissive is there for the dominant, in an unequal relationship that is nevertheless tempered by an ethical system stressing responsibility, authenticity etc. In this picture "Ownership" is roughly M/s and "Possession" is roughly D/s of the same kind. (ie relationships in which the dominant is "in possession of" the submissive, even if they don't own them or the periods of possession are limited in time and scope.)

But from the point of relationships which involve the process of Internal Enslavement leading to ownership, then the periods of possession themselves are part of the mechanism. Using this O&P language, we might say that possession has been maintained long enough and deep enough that it has become ingrained, resulting in the enslavement of the submissive, as a slave.

As I said, most of my writing effort is going into the O&P website, and for simplicity I've now moved all of the IE blog posts onto the site. The IE website is staying online to host the archive of essays and lili's writings - but now with prominent pointers nudging people towards the new stuff on O&P.
