Chains, felling and badgers

I made two trips to the wood this week: one on Sunday with popi to do some BDSM and one yesterday to begin establishing tracks.

One of the best things about having some private open space is being able to use steel bondage equipment for what it was designed for: moving about. The great thing about steel is it's ability to restrict movement rather than prevent it, and I've used that in the cellars in the past - for instance, to put captives in a cell and then remove their ability to stand or get their neck more than a few inches from that cell's slave ring.

But indoors, having twelve inches of chain between your ankles doesn't restrict your movements very much: if it's only a few yards across the room, you hardly have time to notice it. But outdoors a captive might be obliged to walk for minutes, perhaps led by the neck and that's one of the things I started to try out with popi at the weekend. It's also part of the wider subject of coffles and chain-gangs and other ways of marching slaves and captives around (which is why I started collecting pictures of them last year.)

Yesterday I went back and did some work in the clearing, mostly cutting down smaller trees and thickets, but I've also felled this tree which was about 20m high (although I'm going to get a chainsaw before doing any more mature trees.) I also started laying out the first track or ride, the Middle Ride, which runs right across the wood and passes through the central clearing. I managed to cut back enough smaller trees to be able to walk the length of the ride, although the stumps still need dealing with and it needs widening by removing some mature trees with a chainsaw before it will be unshaded enough to grass over in the summer.

I also walked round some of the boundary ditches and streams, and took some pictures. The best of which is this one of a badger footprint (next to a penny) on a steep, muddy bank.
