lili and I had a last minute holiday over the Easter Weekend, partly to catch the last day of the sunny weather and also to do some sightseeing. On the way back, we went to the Birmingham Bizzare Bazaar www.brumbazaar.co.uk for the first time since the middle of last year.

There was an excellent flogging demonstration, with a good hundred people in the audience at the very least and very noticeably more stalls than our last time.

One of the stalls - www.theappealofsteel.com - has a lovely range of stainless steel cuffs and collars which really caught my attention. Steel bondage has become one of my main BDSM interests over the years, both because of its practicality, unyielding strength and very visible inescapability.

Ropework gets a lot of attention because of its beauty, but good Steel has its own elegance, in the OED's third sense: "Of scientific processes, demonstrations, inventions, etc.: "Neatness", ingenious simplicity, convenience, and effectiveness."

Since I put www.Insex.com as one of my Favourite Links here, I've had a couple of people asking what they do. Although they have some quite messy preview images (the worms, for a start!) most of what they do is steel, leather or rope bondage, but the emphasis is always on the psychological effect on the sub, rather than producing pretty but empty pictures for the camera. (And yes, I worry about the long term effects of the breast bondage they do too.)

For my own part, a while back I started experimenting with arc welding for making steel equipment, but I've set this aside for the moment and I'm now concentrating on some modular wooden frames (think wooden BDSM Meccano ;) ) and portable stocks, and today on "decorating" my cellar and cell space beyond brick walls, bare joists and the attachment / suspension points I put in when I moved here. It's very relaxing for me to do practical things with my hands, and a nice change to all the time I normally spend in more mental efforts.
