Skin Two 55 and Marquis 37

Posted by Tanos on Fri 31 Mar 06, 10:10 PM

Skin Two issue 55 and Marquis 37 both came in the post today, so I've sat down this evening and had a good look at them side by side.

This quarter's issue of Skin Two is very photography orientated, with stories about photographers, models and whether "Fetish is the New Porn?", as the cover proclaims. The cover is shockingly colourful, with Smarties flying around (rather like Nicolai Fuglsig's "Colour like no other" TV ads for Sony from autumn 2005...)

There's a nice mention of Backlash and the Spanner Trust in the news section, and a great full-page piece by Ishmael Skyes about trying to do SM in the kind of post-SM world the Bliar government seems to be edging towards (reminded me of the sanitised world of "V for Vendetta" again, especially as I had one of his local councillor goons at the front door this evening - no doubt my name is on the List and I'll be black-bagged by the time you read this ;) )

However, the "Star Letter" is a rant against the late-lamented and now closed Insex.com site, which finishes by approving of the Bush administration's persecution of BDSM websites. Oh, and the sarcasm of PD and Cyd's new Hardtied "safety" checklist seems to have gone over the writer's head too.

Marquis has its usual mix of interviews, straight photoshoots and fiction, with no central theme for the issue. The articles include profiles JG Leathers, and of the Suicide Girls website (which has recently toned down its SM content in the face of the aforementioned Bush administration's tactics.) I always find less to read (rather than look at) in Marquis compared to Skin Two, and there's less BDSM than purely fetish content, but it does have far more coverage of continental Europe (where Skin Two tends to have its away days in the US.)
